Interview with Lexie (heroine from Runaway Bride)

Lexie is introduced in Suddenly a Bride when Caitlyn introduces her new huband (Chris) to her family at a BBQ.  It was a very tense situation for Caitlyn.

Lexie Rogers

Lexie, what did you think of the BBQ?

It went as well as could be expected, considering how Mom is.

Could you elaborate on that?

*shrugs*  Caitlyn’s and my mother has always made Caitlyn uncomfortable ever since I could remember.  Caitlyn is eight years older than me, so I didn’t really notice it until I was around seven and my mom gave her grief over spending too much time with Randy.  Randy was her first husband.

Yes, your mother never did approve of that marriage.  That’s why your mother is especially happy that you’re marrying a doctor.

Yes, I know.  She can talk of little else.  Sometimes I wonder if she ever remembers his name since she only calls him ‘the doctor’.

You don’t sound excited when you talk about him.

Of course, I’m excited.  Nick has a good job, is polite, has money, is good looking, gets along great with my mom…

But you’re not excited about him.

It depends on your definition of excitement.  A stable relationship with a man who’ll be a good provider and will get along with my mother is a good thing.  Trust me, you don’t want to get on my mother’s bad side.  Caitlyn’s been dealing with that all of her life, and it’s painful to watch.

So she doesn’t approve of Caitlyn’s new husband, Chris?

No.  She assumes Caitlyn was fooling around and married him when she got pregnant.  I mean, it is odd that Caitlyn never mentioned him until after they eloped, and then she’s ready to have a baby in less than nine months.  There’s no other explanation for it, but I don’t care.  It’s Caitlyn’s life, and Chris makes her happier than Randy did so I’m happy for her.

Caitlyn was married to Chris before she got pregnant and there’s a good reason for her pregnancy being further along than it should be, but you won’t find out the reason until your story in Runaway Bride.

What are you planning?  For me and Caitlyn to have a heart to heart talk?  We’re not close because of our age difference.  She was out of the house and married to Randy when I was ten.

Maybe you will have a good talk with Caitlyn.  You two will have a lot in common soon enough.

What is that supposed to mean?

It means that you’ll get a better idea of what happened when Caitlyn met Chris.  But I wanted to ask you what you think of Mark.

Chris’ friend?

That’s the only Mark in the book.

He’s fine.

Do you think he’s good looking?

Sure, he is, but I don’t see what that has to do with anything.  I just met him when Chris and Caitlyn were going to renew their wedding vows.  He was Chris’ best man.

And he pretty much hung around you all the time, even after the ceremony.  Didn’t that strike you as odd?

Not really.  I figured I was the only one on the wedding guest list close to his age.  The rest of the guests were either a decade older than us or kids.  Who else was he going to talk to?

You have much to learn about his intentions.

What intentions?

You’ll find out in Runaway Bride.

*looks at me uncertainly*  Okay.
