What Happened to An Unlikely Place for Love, The Cold Wife, and An Inconvenient Marriage?

I’ve received several comments and questions regarding these three books, so to make life simple, I’m going to answer them in this post and link it to my website.

1.  When did you make them contemporary?

May and early June 2011.  So the old historical versions might still be floating around out there through Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Diesel, Apple, and Sony.  Smashwords will send the new versions out, but I can’t tell you when that will happen.  Some things just take time.

If you want to make sure you get the latest version, then I suggest going to Amazon or Smashwords.   You can find the links on this page: http://www.ruthannnordin.com/virginia_brides_series.

2.  Why did you make them contemporary?

Based on the amount of 1 and 2-star reviews and emails I received regarding my historical inaccuracies, I decided to make them contemporary.  They were my first historical books, and yes, they had errors in them.  I figured it was easier to make them contemporary instead of rewriting them to make them “authentic”, and even if I made them as authentic as I could, someone would have still complained that they weren’t historical enough.  So this was a lose-lose proposition.  The best compromise seemed to be to make them contemporary.

3.  But I liked the historical versions better.

I get this one a lot now.  All I can say is that I’m sick of working with those three books, and I’m keeping them contemporary.  I want to write new books, not dwell on the old ones.  So they will stay contemporary.

4.  Will you be changing other books?

This is where I learned my lesson.  I will not change any other book.  Once it’s published, that is it.  Some people will like what I write and some won’t.  You can’t please everyone all the time, so I might as well focus on writing the stories the way I envision them and please those who like what I already do.  Fortunately, there are a lot of books out there, so if someone doesn’t like mine, they can find another author.  If everyone liked the same books, life would be boring.  I say enjoy the variety because this is what self-publishing has allowed–a great variety of books for everyone.  😀

I hope that helps answer all the questions.  If not, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll update this post with the answer.
